KU confirms that the Deutschlandstipendium is an income-independent scholarship jointly financed by private sponsors and the German Federal Government. €150 per month comes from private funding and €150 from the federal government.
What is the KU Deutschlandstipendium?
The Deutschlandstipendium supports academically strong and socially engaged students at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
The scholarship is designed to give selected students a reliable additional source of funding so they can focus more effectively on their studies.
KU considers not only grades but also the broader profile of the applicant, including:
- awards and academic achievements
- previous employment
- internships
- volunteering
- social or political engagement
- family responsibilities
- personal challenges
- migration background
- other circumstances that have influenced the applicant’s educational path.
How much funding do you receive?
If selected, you receive €300 per month, for one calendar year. That equals:€3,600 in total funding.
The scholarship is paid as a non-repayable grant. The standard funding period begins on 1 January 2027 and ends on 31 December 2027.
You may apply again in a later year as long as you remain within the standard period of study and continue to meet the programme requirements.
Who can apply for the KU Deutschlandstipendium?
You can apply if you are enrolled in, or will enter, an eligible degree programme at KU.
Eligible applicants include:
- Bachelor’s students
- Master’s students
- students in other non-doctoral degree programmes
- first-semester students
- continuing students
- students from all faculties and subject areas.
You normally need to remain within the standard period of study. Students enrolled in a doctoral programme are not eligible.
Can international students apply for the KU Deutschlandstipendium?
Yes. KU explicitly states that the Deutschlandstipendium is awarded regardless of nationality.
That means international students can apply if they meet the same academic and enrolment requirements as other applicants.
If you completed your previous education outside Germany, you may need to provide translated documents and a conversion of your grades into the German grading system.
Do I need German citizenship?
No. German citizenship is not required. KU states that nationality is not a selection restriction for the Deutschlandstipendium.
Can I apply if my previous degree is from another country?
Yes. For foreign school certificates, KU requires a translation that can be transferred to the German system and a conversion into the German grading scale.
Master’s applicants with foreign previous degrees may also need corresponding translated academic documents.
Do I need a minimum grade?
KU does not publish one universal minimum grade for all applicants. Instead, the university evaluates your academic performance based on your stage of study.
If you are a new student
KU considers your university entrance qualification and, where relevant, subject-specific grades.
If you are already studying
KU considers your academic performance so far, including:
- completed ECTS credits
- intermediate examination results
- other relevant academic achievements.
If you are applying for a Master’s programme
The grade from your previous university degree is also considered.
What else does KU consider besides grades?
Your academic performance is important, but selection is not based only on grades.
KU may also consider:
- awards and prizes
- previous employment
- internships
- volunteering
- social engagement
- political or university engagement
- participation in clubs, associations or religious communities
- childcare responsibilities
- caring for relatives
- illness or disability
- employment alongside your studies
- family background
- migration background.
This means your application should explain your broader profile rather than simply repeating your grades.
Can I receive BAföG and the Deutschlandstipendium together?
Yes. KU explicitly states that the Deutschlandstipendium is compatible with BAföG. Receiving BAföG therefore does not automatically make you ineligible for the scholarship.
Can I receive another scholarship at the same time?
Usually not if the other award is also merit-based financial funding.
KU excludes applicants who receive another merit- or performance-based material scholarship averaging €30 or more per month from a German or foreign institution.
If you receive another form of funding, check with KU before applying rather than assuming that the two awards are compatible.
Can first-semester students apply?
Yes. The Deutschlandstipendium is open to both new students and continuing students.
For first-semester applicants, KU primarily assesses your school-leaving qualification or another qualification used for university admission.
Can Master’s students apply?
Yes. Master’s students are eligible.
If you are applying for or already enrolled in a Master’s programme, you must provide your previous university degree certificate and any additional academic documents required for the programme.
